CM inaugurates 26th Police-Public Welfare
Mela at Srinagar
Srinagar, September 20 -Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed,
inaugurated the 26th Police-Public Welfare Mela, at Bakshi
Stadium, here today. A large number of people from all walks
of life attended the fair, which is held twice every year in
the capital cities.
After inaugurating the mela, Mufti Sayeed paid floral
tributes to the police martyrs who laid down their lives,
while safeguarding the people and maintaining law-and-order
in the state. The fair aims at generating resources for
welfare of the families of the martyred personnel of J&K
Police, in particular focusing upon free education and
scholarship of their children.
The Chief Minister also went around a few of the colourful
stalls and appreciated the quality of products on display
from all the three regions of the state.
As many as 35 stalls have been set up by Police
Establishment Centres in the Mela, which has been organized
by Jammu & Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association (JKPWWA).
Besides the stalls, a game zone for entertainment of
children has also been set up in the mela. The main
attraction though remains the raffle draw in which prizes
from luxury cars to laptops, washing machines and LCDs will
be presented to the lucky winners.
Also present were Chairperson, JKPWWA, Mrs. K. Vijaya
Rajendra, ADGP Headquarters, S. P. Vaid, ADGP Armed, S. M.
Sahai, ADGP Security, V. K. Singh, IGP, Kashmir Zone, SJM
Gillani, IGP Crime, Muneer Khan, IGP Traffic, J. P. Singh,
besides DIGs, SSPs and several other senior officers of the
J&K Police Department.
