Police Public Mela in Jammu on March 3rd, 2013

 

 

Jammu (J&K), January 21: Preparedness for day long Police Public Mela being held in Jammu, was discussed in a police officers’ meeting held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here this afternoon. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional Director General of Police, Headquarters (ADGP), Mr. S. P. Vaid.

Addressing the meeting, the ADGP said that Police Public Mela is one of the grand events organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association (JKPWWA) regularly in Srinagar and Jammu. He said that the Melas have assumed much importance among the public over the years. People from all shades of life visit the Melas and avail the opportunity of having items of their choices, from all the regions of the State under one roof. These Melas have also brought police and public together to work for peace and prosperity of the State, he added.

Mr. Vaid informed that 22nd Police Public Mela would be inaugurated on March 3, 2013 at 10 a.m and raffle draw for 5605 fabulous prizes would be held at 4 p.m. He said that bumper prizes have made the event more attractive and people from all corners of the State wait for months to test their luck through raffle draws. The funds raised through these Melas are utilized for the welfare of police martyrs’ families and the wards of serving and retired personnel under various welfare schemes adopted by the organization among which wards of police personnel are awarded scholarships to nurture their talent in the field of education.

 

During the meeting, discussions were held with regard to various arrangements. For this purpose various committees headed by senior officers were constituted and asked to start the preparations for the grand event. It was decided that the stall holders of different police establishments across the State would be geared up for their massive participation in the Mela with their products. Stall holders would have to ensure that quality products are put on sale during the Mela on reasonable rates to the public. Sufficient space would be provided to them to establish their stalls for exhibition and sale of products. It was also decided that the number of raffle draw tickets would be enhanced to meet the demand of the general masses. The tickets would be made available for sale at all prominent places in the state from February 5, 2013. Commandant, Mr. Vijay Singh Sambyal was nominated as Nodal officer for the Mela.

 

The ADGP stressed upon the officers present in the meeting to work in close coordination and convene meetings at different levels to make the event a success. He said that all required arrangements should be finalized well in advance. Painting competition and special entertainment programmes for the children would also be part of the Mela.

Resutora, SSsP, Mr. Vijay Singh Sambyal, Mr. J. L. Sharma and Mr. Prabath Singh, AIsGP, Aftab Ahmed Kakroo and Mr. R. S. Sambyal, SsP. Mr. J. S. Jowhar, Mr. Rajeshwar Singh, and Mr. B. A. Tamil, ADO (PHQ), Mr. B. A. Shah, Dy.SP Welfare (PHQ), Mrs. Madhu Bandral and other police offices.
