DGP inaugurates Police-Public Mela



Srinagar (Kashmir) , September 30: Jammu and Kashmir Police organised a Police Public Mela at Bakshi Stadium here on Sunday which was inaugurated by Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad.

Amid great enthusiasm, The Director General of Police described the event as a bridge between police and public and said that such events provide an opportunity to the people and the police to assemble, interact with each other which unveil the humane face of the cops. He appreciated the efforts of Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association for organising such Melas in a befitting manner since years which has helped to strengthen the police public relations at gross route levels.

Prasad said that the Melas also provides an opportunity to memorise the sacrifices of Jammu and Kashmir Police, they offered while ensuring the security and safety of the people. He said that during the years of turmoil JKP families suffered a lot as a number of Jawans and officers of the force laid down their lives for the integrity of the State. He stressed that the sacrifices offered cannot be forgot and it is prime duty of the police Parivar to take care of their families. He said that it was due to the sacrifices of our martyrs that peace has been prevailed and the people of the State feel themselves in a secure atmosphere.

During the Mela various stalls were established by different police units and products of different regions of the State were put for sale to the public. People from all shades of life showed their keen interest in purchase of these items and the children enjoyed the amusement items during the day long Mela. Painting competition for the children was also conducted in the Mela and prizes were distributed among the winners of the competition. Cultural groups presented different items which were enjoyed by the people. Tambola was also the main attraction for the people in the Mela.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the Mela, the DGP disclosed that the receipts realized from the raffle draw tickets are utilized for the fabulous 4485 prizes which include 12 cars of different makes. He said that the receipts are also utilized for the welfare of families of police martyrs.

Later Prasad along with senor police officers, Chairperson, PWWA, Kiran Prasad and lady members visited various stalls established in the Mala. He showed keen interest in the products put for sale on the stalls.

Earlier, Kiran Prasad briefed the dignitaries about the objectives of organising such Melas Among others, the function was attended by ADsGP, K. Rajendra Kumar, Dr. Ram Lubhaya and S.P Vaid, IsGP, V.K Singh, S.M Sahai, A.K Choudhary, H.K Lohia, Rauf-ul-Hassan, Abdul Ghani Mir, M. Sulaiman Salaria, P.R Manhas, Yoginder Koul, Alok Puri and Muneer Ahmed Khan, besides Lady members of PWWA, prominent citizens, media persons and police, civil officers.

Later, results of raffle draw for prizes of 21st Police Public Mela were announced. Small children drawn from the gathering picked the lucky numbers for prizes of different categories in presence of Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad, Additional Directors General of Police, K. Rajendra Kumar, Dr. Ram Lubhaya and S.P Vaid, Chairperson, J and K Police Wives Welfare Association, Kiran Prasad, senior police officers and lady members of J and K Police Wives Welfare Association.
