DGP takes stock of arrangements, describes Mela as Mega Event



Jammu, February 16: The Director General of Police (DGP), Mr. Kuldeep Khoda today convened a high level meeting of police officers to take stock of the arrangements made in connection with 20th Police Public Mela, being held on March 4, 2012 in Jammu. The meeting discussed the arrangements in thread bare and finalized same for smooth conduct of the event.

At the outset of the meeting, the DGP sought reports from the committees already constituted for making the arrangements on different fronts and the meeting was informed that almost arrangements have been completed for the day long mela. It was told that sale of raffle draw tickets has been started at various places across the state and the people are showing keen interest in getting tickets. People’s participation at large scale is expected and keeping in view this, security arrangements in and around the venue and police bandubast for the occasion is being focussed on priority. For the convenience of the public, parking slots have been identified and traffic arrangements finalized.

Mr. Khoda, while addressing the meeting said that during the past few years, police public mela has assumed much popularity among the masses and the people across the state have been seen anxious for the grand event. The occasion has brought the force much closer to the public and people from all shades of life are participating in the melas in twin capital cities of the state. He stressed to introduce more items in the mela representing different regions of the state to make the event attractive for the public. He also asked the officers to ensure sale of tickets on the mela day at the venue by establishing special sale counters and computerization of raffle draw tickets to make the process transparent. He also stressed upon the officers to coordinate at all levels to make the event a success.

The DGP informed that Police Public Mela, being held in Jammu at Police Sports Stadium, Gulshan Ground, will be inaugurated at 10 a.m. and will conclude at 5 p.m. Raffle draw will take place at the venue at 4 p.m. sharp. He said this time some more bumper prizes have been introduced to make the event more attractive for the public. He said that the transparency in raffle draws has strengthened the trust of the people upon the organizers. The sources gained through these melas are utilized for the welfare of police martyr’s families and the wards of serving and retired personnel under various welfare schemes adopted by the Organization among which wards of police personnel are awarded scholarships to nurture their talent in the field of education, he added.

The meeting decided that the stall holders from various police establishment centres would reach to Jammu before three days of the event to establish their stalls at the identified space. They would ensure to display their items in a befitting manner. The DGP asked the designated officers to check the quality of the goods to be displayed for sale and ensure reasonable rates. He said that the event provides an opportunity to the public to get different items of different regions of the state under one roof. He also said that the painting competition for children and cultural items would be a part of mela to entertain the participants.

Singh, Mr. Garib Dass and Mr. Johny William, AIsGP, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Bhat, Mr. Aftab Ahmed Kakroo and Mrs. Nisha Nathyal, SsSP, Mr. Nisar Ahmed and Mr. Ranjit Kanwar, SsP, Mr. Rajeshwar Singh, Mr. J. S. Jowhar, Mrs. Anita Sharma and other police officers.
