First Lady inaugurates Police-Public Mela in presence of Hon'ble Governor & Charirperson PWWA


 
Srinagar (Kashmir), October 01: Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady, inaugurated the day-long 19th Jammu and Kashmir Police-Public Mela in presence of Mr. N. N. Vohra, Hon'ble Governor, who was Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony, amidst enthusiasm and fanfare, at Bakshi Stadium here this morning.

Dr. Indu Koul Khoda, Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association, lady members of the Association and Mr. Kuldeep Khoda, Director General of Police, were prominent among those present on the occasion. The First Lady lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the inauguration of the Jammu Kashmir Police-Public Mela. The students of the Jammu & Kashmir Police Public School, Srinagar presented a welcome song on the occasion.

Later, Hon'ble Governor and the First Lady, along with the DGP and the Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association, and other dignitaries went around the stalls put up in the Mela and evinced keen interest in the goods, particularly hand made ones, kept for sale from all the regions of the State. The Governor and the First Lady interacted with the stall holders and enquired about the various items put up for sale.

At the stall put up by the Traffic Wing of the Police, the Hon'ble Governor discussed with the Director General of Police and the Traffic Police officers the need for bringing time-bound improvement in traffic management in the State, particularly focusing on implementing specific measures to reduce serious road accidents which are taking a heavy toll every month.

Hon'ble Governor also interacted with the children who participated in the painting competition organized on the occasion as part of the Mela and wished them a bright future ahead.

Hon'ble Governor and the Lady Governor were briefed by Mr. Khoda and Dr. Indu Koul Khoda about the aims and objects of the Mela and, besides, the activities of the organization aimed at securing the welfare of police families with special emphasis on widows and orphans. The Governor and Mrs. Vohra appreciated these initiatives of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association.

Hon'ble Governor and the Lady Governor were presented mementos by the Director General of Police and the Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association on this occasion. The Mela was attended by a large number of people from all walks of life. They showed great enthusiasm in purchasing goods kept for sale at the several dozen stalls, food of various kinds and witnessed varied cultural presentations.

Among others, the inaugural function was attended by Mr. K. Rajendra Kumar, Dr. Ram Lubhaya, Mrs. D. R. Doley, Mr. Naveen Agarwal and Dr. S. P. Vaid, Additional Directors General of Police, Mr. S. M. Sahai, Dr. B. Srinivas, Mr. Owais Ahmed, Mr. H. K. Lohia, Mr. Deepak Kumar, Mr. Gulzar Singh Slathia and Mr. Rouf-ul-Hassan, Inspectors General of Police, and other senior serving and retired civil and police officers.
